Ryan McRee is a director, dramaturg and writer based in Los Angeles.

Ryan believes that dramaturgy is the future of the theatre.

In an era of seemingly endless content and entertainment media, dramaturgy needs to bear the torch toward the future of our art form. A more inclusive, equitable, accessible, and stylistically innovative theatre is one led by conscientious professionals trained in what makes our work unique. Los Angeles theatre in particular needs to direct its aspirations away from being a workshop for film and television stories and to instead showcase the theatrical. A “scholar-artist,” Ryan brings to all his work the thorough research of a dramaturg, the narrative sensitivity of a writer, and the experimental boldness of a director.

Theatre isn’t dying. It’s the history of humanity. And the next chapter belongs to us.
